"Papillon"(1973) es sin duda una de las peliculas clasicas mas conocidas y mejor hechas sobre la vida en un carcel. Protagonizada por Steve McQueen y Dustin Hoffman esta basada en una  novela autobiografica de Henri Charriere -un ciudadano  frances condenado a los trabajos forzados en una carcel tropical de Guiana Francesa.

En la pelicula hay muchas escenas bastante duras y peculiares para la epoca sobre la vida en un carcel ( en este punto hay mucho similitud con "Midnight Express"(1978) Por ejemplo fue  tocado el tema de homosexualidad y abusos sexuales en el carcel. Robert Deman hace papel de una "maricona" local  a quien  a la vez no falta valor para matar a  su abusador ....
